DARS Supplement for BBA Candidates

A recommended four-year plan for BBA candidates starting in 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.

Majors: Accounting; Business Analytics; Business Economics; Business Pre-Law; Entrepreneurship; Finance; International Business; Marketing; Management Information Systems; Strategic Leadership and Management

The BBA degree requires the completion of 52 hours of business coursework and 30 hours of non-business coursework. The number of non-business electives each individual student will need will vary by major and course selection, but typically, BBA candidates will need to complete 3-5 non-business elective courses.

The BBA degree requires the completion of 120 credit hours. Both business and non-business coursework counts in this category. The number of free- electives each individual student will need will vary by major and course selection, but typically, BBA candidates completing only a single major will need to complete 5-10 free elective courses. Students who complete two business majors or a major and minor or certificate will need the fewest number of free-electives.

First Year

Copeland Core (LC)

  • BA 1000: Intro to College of Business
    • Credit Hours: 1
    • Prerequisite: CoB
    • Must be completed by first year and transfer students in first CoB term
  • BA 1100: Introduction to Business and Ethical Reasoning
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Prerequisite: None
    • Must be completed in first CoB term unless previously completed through transfer or at Ohio University.
  • UC 1900 or UC 1500: CoB Learning Community Seminar
    • Credit Hours: 1
    • Prerequisite: CoB
    • Must be completed by first year and transfer students in first CoB term
  • BA 1500: Introduction to Business Communication and Professional Skills
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Prerequisite: CoB
    • Ideally completed in first CoB term. This course is a Business Cluster prerequisite
  • ECON 1030: Principles of Microeconomics
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Prerequisite: math placement level 2* or higher or C or better in MATH 1200
  • ECON 1040: Principles of Macroeconomics
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Prerequisite: math placement level 2* or higher or C or better in MATH 1200
  • ENG 1510: Freshman Composition
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • BBA and BSM candidates are assigned ENG 1510 in spring semester
  • MATH 1350: Survey of Calculus
    • Credit Hours: 4
    • Prerequisite: math placement level 2* or higher or C or better in MATH 1200; no credit for this course and MATH 2301
  • ACCT 1010: Foundations of Accounting
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Prerequisite: MATH 1200 or higher or Math Placement Level 1* or higher

Plus 6 hours electives from OU BRICKS and free electives, which vary in number depending on selection of major(s), minor(s), certificate(s) and cultural option.

Note: Math placement scores (DV, PL1, PL2, PL3) are a function of a student's mathematics history as reported to Ohio University via transcripts.

Sophomore

    • Transferring students will take a special combination section of BA 1000 and 2000
  • FIN 3000: Introduction to Corporate Finance
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Prerequisite: ACCT 1010
  • BUSL 2550: Law and Society
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Prerequisite: CoB and sophomore, junior, or senior
  • QBA 2720: Business Analytics
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Prerequisite: QBA 1720 or 1721 or 2010
  • Business Cluster
    • An academic experience that integrates four core business courses in one semester: MKT 2400, BA 2500, MGT 2100, and MIS 2020
    • Credit Hours: 12
    • Cluster Prerequisites: CoB, BA 1500, ECON 1030, and ENG 1510

Plus 2 hours electives from OU BRICKS and free electives, which vary in number depending on selection of major(s), minor(s), and cultural option.

Junior

  • MGT 3200 Operations Management

Business Cluster

Includes the following four courses: BA 2500 (3), MGT 2100 (3), MIS 2020 (3), MKT 2400 (3)

  • Prerequisites: COB, BA 1500, ECON 1030, and ENG 1510

Directions to Register

Using the online registration system, load all four cluster courses in your 鈥渟hopping cart鈥 before you click 鈥渇inish enrolling鈥. Be sure all four courses have the same section number (100, 102, 103, etc.) For your convenience, section numbers are listed for each 鈥渃luster course鈥 on the course offerings website. Remember, you cannot combine cluster courses from different cluster sections. Consult a College of Business BAACS Success Advisor ASAP if you encounter difficulty with this process.

Cluster Waiting List

If all sections of the Cluster are full when it is your time/day to register, do these two things in this order:

  1. Register for a full schedule of non-cluster courses as there is no way to be sure you will get a seat from a waiting list
  2. Contact the College of Business BAACS office to inquire about cluster waiting list procedure. You can contact our office by emailing BAACS@ohio.edu; calling 740.593.2042, or stopping by 214 Copeland Hall.

Internship Requirement

  • BA 3910 (1 - 3 Credit Hours)

Academic credit you will receive for an approved work experience that will enable you to understand professional expectations and gain business exposure prior to your first full-time role. Students are prepared for their professional experiences through BA 1000 and 2000. Career Coaches in the BAACS office are available to assist students with professional development as well as internship and full-time position searches.

  2. Students who transfer into the CoB must complete these courses during their first term of COB enrollment:

    3. BA 1100 Intro to Business NOTE: Only this course can be completed prior to CoB admission.
    4. UC 1500 (.5) Learning Community (7 weeks) NOTE: This course is required for all students regardless of
      having previously completed a UC 1900 or UC 1500 course from another college
    5. BA 1500 (3) Intro to Bus. Comm & Profess. is highly encouraged in the first CoB term as it is a Business
      Cluster prerequisite
  3. You will not be able to take the Business Cluster during your first semester in the College of Business.

Academic Advising, Graduation Plans, Registration Holds

All business majors will have a REGISTRATION HOLD on their account EVERY SEMESTER which will prevent next-semester registration until they have participated in their semesterly 天美传媒GRADUATION PLAN (OGP) meeting with a CoB Success Advisor. Instructions will be emailed each semester prior to the registration period. Registration holds will be released within 72 hours of completion of the OGP. It is the student鈥檚 responsibility to be aware of the OGP schedule and to participate in time to allow for their own on-time course registration.
